BHRT Treatments: Empowering Healthy Aging

I practice science-based medicine with a holistic approach, tailoring therapies to each patient’s unique needs—whether natural, conventional, or a blend of both. My protocols combine hormone therapy as needed, preventatative hormones, dietary and lifestyle changes, nutraceuticals (peptides, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, botanicals,), thyroid hormone therapy, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)—including estrogens, progesterone, DHEA, and testosterone—and pharmaceuticals when needed.

What is BHRT?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy uses hormones identical in molecular structure to those your body produces, often derived from plant sources like yams or soy. Think of “bioidentical” as “body-identical.” These hormones treat imbalances, optimize levels, and support healthy aging in both men and women. Examples include progesterone, estriol, estradiol, Bi-Est (a 20:80 or 50:50 estradiol-to-estriol ratio), pregnenolone, DHEA, and testosterone. Compounded by pharmacists, they’re available as sublingual drops, transdermal creams, oral capsules, suppositories, injectables, implants (“pellets”), or patches.

How I Develop Patient Treatment Plan?

I begin with baseline hormone testing via blood, saliva, or urine, alongside a detailed medical and family history review, focusing on hormone-related cancers. For women, I require a recent PAP smear, breast imaging (mammogram or thermography), and sometimes a pelvic/vaginal ultrasound. After starting therapy, it takes about three months for cells to develop receptor sites. I retest hormones at three months, six months, and then yearly, adjusting based on your administration method.

Symptoms of Hormone Imbalance

•  Women: Fatigue, low energy, sleep issues, weight gain, muscle loss, low libido, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, memory lapses, mood swings, anxiety, or depression.

•  Men: Low testosterone often causes reduced sex drive, erectile dysfunction, depression, fatigue, muscle loss, body hair reduction, and increased fat. Symptoms vary by individual.

Why BHRT Matters

If you’re battling hot flashes, perimenopause/menopause symptoms, low motivation, energy crashes (like at 11 a.m. or 4 p.m.), brain fog, lethargy, memory decline, reduced performance, sudden weight gain, or difficulty losing weight, functional medicine and BHRT can transform your life. Let’s address these challenges and help you thrive—at any age.
